| TUTORIAL 4 - Opencanvas: coloring | |
![]() On the last image you can see the different layers and their oppacity | |
| STEP 1 | |
![]() | Original image by Inkthinker Active layers ---> A |
| STEP 2 | |
![]() | Added shadows using gray tones (I use some grayed tone, not pure gray). I define the light and main shadows this way... find it easier to stick to one single color to define values. Also add textures to the stones on the wall, costume and hair. Active layers ---> A+B |
| STEP 3 | |
![]() | Time to add grays to background using the same gray tone used for the figure. I also painted over the figure layer to create more texture (which at the end can be a problem to fix mistakes using too many layers) Active layers ---> A+B+C |
| STEP 4 | |
![]() | I
turned off the gray layers and started coloring the figure. Just used
flat tones (on opencanvas never are completely flat if you use the
brush tool, but i prefer to color this way). Also added the background (rendered in Gimp, using some brush strokes and smudging them) Active layers ---> A+D |
| STEP 5 | |
![]() | Turned on the gray layers. The shadows will adapt perfectly to the flat colors. Will add the lights later, on a new layer. Active layers ---> A+B+C+D |
| STEP 6 | |
![]() | To add more depth to the pic, I just duplicated the layer C, inverted and changed to substract mode. This will make a darker background Active layers ---> A+B+C+D+E |
| STEP 7 | |
![]() | Time to add lights. I used a new layer, add mode, low oppacity, painting with light yellow. Active layers ---> A+B+C+D+E+F |
| STEP 8 | |
![]() | New add mode layer, using orange, to show the second light source until the image is finished. At the final stage i usually move the layers up and down until I'm satisfied. Active layers ---> A+B+C+D+E+F+G Hope it's helpfull :) |
